Mr. Ashraf Musbally
Managing Director And Principal Officer - Appointed in April 2016
Mr. Musbally, born in 1969, graduated in 1993 with a BSc. (Hons.) from City University, London, in Insurance & Investment. He holds an MBA from Imperial College, London, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII).
He worked as Management Consultant at Kemp Chatteris Deloitte & Touche before joining MUA Life Ltd. in 1997 to manage and develop its health insurance department, a post which he held until 2004, when he was appointed Chief Operations Officer – General Insurance.
Mr Musbally kept the same position after the merger of LPM/MUA activities in 2010, and in January 2012 he took the responsibility of the Underwriting Department of the General Insurance. He was promoted to Head of the General Insurance cluster in January 2014.
In April 2016, Mr. Musbally was appointed Managing Director of MUA in East Africa.
Mr. Johnston Mualuko
Head of Finance & Operations
Mr. Mualuko, born in 1983, holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Accounting Option) from the University of Nairobi, School of Business. He is also a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) and is a registered Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, ICPAK.
He has worked majorly in the insurance sector for over 9 years. He has worked in Jubilee Insurance subsidiaries across the East Africa region such as Kenya as An Accountant for almost 2.5 years, Tanzania for a special assignment and Burundi as Finance Manager and Senior Finance manager (Head of Finance) for almost 2 years. He has also worked in Jubilee Holdings Limited as an Accountant in the Group and he has been awarded for outstanding performances during his tenure across the subsidiaries. During his tenure at Jubilee subsidiaries he has been exposed in areas such as treasury, credit control, Re-insurance accounting, tax, financial accounting and reporting, financial modelling, budgeting and forecasting, investments, board pack preparation and presentation, regulatory returns, supplier management, etc. with an ultimate role in heading the Finance function in Jubilee Burundi where he played a key role in streamlining accounting processes, implemented accounting system with data migration for several years, transformed the finance function, trained and mentored staff.
In May 2014, he joined Prime Insurance Rwanda Limited as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) where he worked for 3 years. His main achievements include the transformation of the accounting function through implementation of cloud based finance system, improved reporting timelines through reports automation and improved accounting processes, engineered implementation of company asset register, his participation in successful right sizing, portfolio analysis and redesigning of alternative distribution models which reduced the company’s operational costs and loss ratios, introduced real time management of cash flows, re-engineered cash collection processes, overseeing several regulatory investigations and audits with excellent outcome, implemented risk framework reporting and negotiated profitable treaty arrangements, build new finance team, mentored and coached them to excellent team. He joined MUA in July 2017.
